The instinctive fix for a Wi-Fi dead zone is "add another extender." Sometimes that works. Often it just adds a second weak signal fighting the first one. Here's what's usually actually going on.
Wi-Fi signal doesn't fail gradually with distance the way people assume — it fails suddenly when it hits the wrong material. Concrete, steel racking, lift shafts, and even large mirrors or glass partitions can block or badly reflect a signal that would otherwise travel much further.
Consumer Wi-Fi extenders rebroadcast a weakened version of the signal they receive — if placed at the edge of a dead zone, they extend a weak signal, not a strong one. Multiple extenders on overlapping channels can also actively interfere with each other, making the problem worse rather than better. The alternative is to distribute properly instead of rebroadcasting: on our three-acre Alibaug estate the coverage came from five outdoor junctions feeding long-range access points, not from extenders chained off the house.
An RF survey usually identifies the actual cause within an hour or two on-site.
